Subscriptions, member uploads & mobile app

Free channel subscriptions, moderated video uploads from your members and an installable app, all set up from Settings.

TubePress 1.2 brings three features that turn visitors into regulars: channel subscriptions, member video uploads and an installable mobile app. Each one is switched on and tuned from the admin and works with the bundled Simply and Hentai Noir themes.

Update your theme as well. Themes are updated separately from the core: the new buttons and pages need Simply 1.0.28 or Hentai Noir 1.0.15 at least, so install the latest version from Admin → Updates. A custom theme has to opt in — see Theme development.

Channel subscriptions

Members can follow the channels they like, for free. Subscriptions are on by default; you can switch them off in Settings → Community.

  • A Subscribe button appears on every channel page and next to the channel name under the player, with the subscriber count.
  • The member's profile gains a Subscriptions tab: the channels they follow and a feed of their latest videos, with a New badge on everything published since their last visit.
  • A badge in the account menu tells them when new videos are waiting.
  • Guests who click Subscribe are invited to sign in or create an account.

In the admin, the /admin/channels list shows how many subscribers each channel has, and Settings → Community shows your totals and most-followed channels.

Member video uploads

Let your members send their own videos. Uploads are off by default: turn them on in Settings → Community, where you also choose:

Review before publishing
On by default, and recommended — every upload waits for your approval.
Maximum file size
2 GB by default, up to 20 GB.
Uploads per member per day
10 by default; 0 means no daily limit.
Upload rules
Your own rules, shown to members right above the confirmation box.

Members then get an Upload button and a guided upload page. Large files are sent in small pieces and pick up where they stopped if the connection drops. While the file uploads, members add the title, description, categories and tags, choose a thumbnail captured from their video, and confirm that they hold the rights and that everyone shown is a consenting adult. They follow each video in the My uploads tab of their profile.

Every file is checked before it is accepted. With transcoding on, members can send MOV, MKV, AVI and other common formats, converted for the web automatically; without it, only browser-ready videos are accepted.

Reviewing uploads

New uploads land in Videos → Member uploads, with a badge in the sidebar counting what is waiting. For each video you can:

Approve & publish
Publishes the video with the suggested tags you keep. The member gets an email.
Reject
Pick a reason and add an optional note; the member sees both. By default the video and its files are deleted.
Edit details
Opens the normal video editor, where Save & approve publishes it in one go.
Take down
Removes a video you had already approved.

You can also be pinged on Telegram for every new upload. Each submission keeps the uploader's account, IP address and original file name, so any video can be traced back to whoever sent it.

You are responsible for what you publish. Keep the review switched on, write clear upload rules and act quickly on reports. Depending on your country, extra legal duties may apply to adult content uploaded by users, such as age and consent records and takedown procedures.

Installable mobile app

Switch on the installable app (a Progressive Web App) in Settings → Mobile app. Visitors can then add your site to their phone's home screen and open it full screen with its own icon — no app store involved. Your site must be served over HTTPS.

  1. Name the app. Set its full name and the short name shown under the icon (12 characters max).
  2. Add an icon. Upload a square image of at least 512×512 px — or keep the default icon in your brand colour.
  3. Pick the colours. Set the title-bar and splash-screen colours, and how the app opens (standalone is recommended).
  4. Save and check. A live preview shows the home-screen icon and the splash screen.

If you wish, a discreet banner suggests installing the app after a couple of pages and stays hidden for two weeks once dismissed. On Android and in desktop Chrome or Edge it installs in one tap; on iPhone and iPad the banner explains Safari's two steps — Share, then Add to Home Screen. Once installed, a lost connection shows a clean offline page instead of a browser error, and switching the app off later is clean too: installed copies stop using their cache on their next visit.
