The admin dashboard

A tour of the admin panel, the dashboard widgets and how to find your way around.

The admin dashboard is the first screen you see after signing in, and the home base for running your site. It pulls your most important numbers, recent activity and common shortcuts into a single, customisable grid — so you can see what needs attention without digging through menus.

This page tours the dashboard and the admin panel around it: how to sign in, how the navigation is organised, what each widget shows, and how to rearrange the whole thing to suit the way you work. You can follow along on the live demo.

Logging in

The admin panel lives at /admin. On the public demo that is demo.tubepress.io/admin; on your own site it is https://your-site/admin. Sign in with the administrator account you created during installation.

Hide the door. You can move the admin panel to a secret URL and add two-factor authentication so bots never even find the login form. Both live in Security settings.

The admin layout

Every admin screen shares the same frame: a dark navigation sidebar on the left, a slim status bar across the top, and your working area in the middle. The sidebar is a single scrolling list — a few entries expand to reveal their sub-pages. From top to bottom you get:

Updates
A highlighted shortcut at the very top — it lights up when a new CMS, plugin or theme version is available.
Dashboard
This page — your overview and shortcuts.
Videos
The library, expanding to Categories, Tags, Pornstars and Channels — all your content and taxonomy in one group.
Users
Members and staff accounts.
Comments
The comment moderation queue.
Inbox
Contact-form messages and content reports from visitors.
Pages
Static pages such as About, 2257 or DMCA.
Import
Bulk content tools, expanding to the Download Queue.
Plugins · Themes · Languages
Add-ons and presentation. Themes expands to Edit Code for the theme editor.
Settings
Everything else — general, security, storage, transcoding and more.

The status bar along the top keeps an eye on background work, with at-a-glance indicators such as the active import and the transcode queue, plus a quick link back out to the live site. Appearance — branding, colours, the menu and the footer — is reached from the Themes area at /admin/appearance; you will meet it in Appearance and Pages & menus.

Dashboard widgets

The dashboard is a grid of independent widgets. Each one is a self-contained card that loads its own data, so you can keep the panels you care about and put away the rest. The full set is:

Statistics OverviewKey counts at a glance — videos, categories, tags, performers, channels, pages, users and comments. Always pinned to the top.
Views TrendA line chart of daily video views over the last 30 days. If view logging is unavailable it falls back to daily uploads.
Content by TypeA doughnut chart splitting videos by type — Straight, Gay and Hentai.
Video StatusThe breakdown of videos by status — published, draft and private.
Top CategoriesYour ten largest categories by video count.
Recent VideosThe ten most recently added videos.
Recent CommentsThe ten newest comments across the site.
Top VideosThe ten most-viewed published videos.
Pending ModerationComments and reports waiting for your decision.
Quick ActionsShortcut buttons — add a video, category, performer or page, open import, jump to settings.
System InfoPHP and CMS version, MySQL version, free disk space and database size.
Storage ServersStatus and disk usage for each configured storage server.
Recent UsersThe newest registered accounts.
Inbox SummaryUnread contact messages and pending reports.
Top PerformersThe ten performers with the most videos.
Transcode ServersStatus, load and queue depth for your transcode workers.

A fresh install shows a sensible default selection — Statistics Overview Views Trend Quick Actions Recent Videos Pending Moderation System Info — and the others are one click away through Add Widget.

Customising your dashboard

The grid is yours to rearrange, and your layout is saved to your own account — it does not change what other admins see.

  1. Reorder. Grab a widget by its header and drag it to a new position. The new order saves automatically.
  2. Add or remove. Click Add Widget to open the manager, where widgets are grouped by Statistics, Charts, Content, Tools and System. Tick a box to show a widget, untick to hide it.
  3. Hide quickly. Use the eye icon in any widget's header to tuck it away without opening the manager.
  4. Reset. Click Reset to return to the default layout at any time.
Statistics Overview stays put. Because it is the headline of the page, the Statistics Overview widget can be moved but not removed — it is always visible.

Finding things fast

The dashboard is built to point you at whatever needs a decision, but a few habits make the whole panel quicker to navigate:

  • Every list — videos, comments, users and the rest — has its own search box and filters at the top, so you rarely need to page through results by hand.
  • The Quick Actions widget is the fastest route to the things you do most: adding content and opening settings.
  • Pending Moderation and Inbox Summary turn into your daily to-do list — if their counts are zero, there is nothing waiting.
  • The floating help button in the corner of the admin links straight to relevant tasks and guides.
