Moderation, reports & inbox

Handle content reports, contact messages and the age-gate compliance overlay.

Running a video site means handling the things visitors flag, the messages they send, and — for adult content — proving they are old enough to be there. TubePress gathers all of this into a single workflow so nothing slips through the cracks.

This page covers the content-report queue, the contact inbox, comment moderation, and the bundled Age Gate plugin that puts an age-verification wall in front of your site.

Keeping your site clean

Moderation in TubePress has four moving parts, each reachable from the admin:

  • Content reports — visitors flag individual videos for review.
  • The inbox — contact-form submissions land in one place.
  • Comment moderation — an optional approval queue plus anti-spam filters.
  • Age verification — a full-screen gate that confirms visitors are adults.

Reports and contact messages share one screen — the Inbox at /admin/inbox, which has a Messages tab and a Reports tab — so your moderation work has a single home.

Content reports

Every video carries a report control. A visitor picks a reason, optionally adds detail and an email, and submits — no account required. Reports collect under the Reports tab (the /admin/reports URL simply redirects there). The available reasons are:

Illegal content Copyright violation Spam / Misleading Broken / Not working Underage content Other

Each report moves through four states — Pending, Under Review, Resolved and Dismissed — and the queue sorts the freshest pending items to the top. Opening one shows the reason, any detail and reporter email, the reporter's IP, and how many times that same video has been reported. From there you can:

Update status
Mark it reviewed, resolved or dismissed, with an optional internal admin note.
Delete the video
Remove the offending video outright — every report against it is resolved automatically.
Delete the report
Discard a single report you do not need to keep.

The submission form is shielded by the same spam defences as comments — a honeypot, a time gate, rate limits and a duplicate filter — and the same visitor cannot report the same video twice within 24 hours. You can be alerted to new reports over Telegram (on by default) and, optionally, by email to your contact address.

Watch for repeat offenders. The report count on a video is the quickest signal that something needs action — a clip flagged many times by different visitors usually warrants removal over a dismissal.

The inbox & contact messages

The Messages tab of /admin/inbox collects everything sent through your contact form. Each entry records the sender's name and email, the subject and subject type, the message body, and the originating IP, and is marked read or unread. You can filter to unread only, toggle an item's read state, and delete messages you have dealt with; a badge keeps the unread count in view.

Contact submissions are protected by your CAPTCHA and spam filters, and — like reports — can notify you by email (the contact email is on by default) and over Telegram.

Comment moderation

Comments have their own dedicated workflow: an optional moderation queue that holds every new comment for approval, plus a layered anti-spam suite (honeypot, time gate, rate limits, duplicate and link blocking). All comments are reviewed at /admin/comments.

Because comments are a topic in their own right, the full configuration lives on its own page.

See the dedicated guide. Turning on the approval queue and tuning each spam filter is covered in Comments.

Age verification (Age Gate)

Adult sites must confirm their audience is of age. TubePress bundles the Age Gate plugin, which drops a full-screen verification overlay in front of your whole site on a visitor's first arrival. Enable and configure it from /admin/plugins.

It is flexible enough to fit most jurisdictions:

  • Three verification modes — a simple button click ("I am 18+"), a date-of-birth entry with real-time age validation, or a checkbox agreement. Choose the strength that suits your legal requirements.
  • Three visual styles — an animated dark gradient, a solid dark overlay, or a frosted blur backdrop, each with smooth entrance and exit animations.
  • Legal compliance — an optional RTA ("Restricted To Adults") meta tag for parental-filtering software, plus links to your Terms of Service, 18 U.S.C. 2257 and Privacy Policy shown right on the overlay.
  • Customisable copy & behaviour — edit the title, message, disclaimer and button labels, set the exit URL for visitors who decline, and choose how long the confirmation cookie lasts so returning visitors are not re-prompted.
The age gate is your responsibility, not legal advice. Pick the verification mode and legal links that match the rules where you and your audience are located. When in doubt, use the stricter date-of-birth mode and complete the 2257 and Privacy links.
